Sembcorp to invest in wastewater treatment plants in China

Energy, water and marine group Sembcorp China is to sign agreements for two new wastewater treatment projects in Liaoning proviince in northeast China.

Under the first joint venture (JV) agreement, Sembcorp China will build, own and operate a new CNY117.3m ($19m) industrial wastewater treatment plant to serve industrial customers in Panjin City’s Panjin Fine Chemical Industrial Park (PFCIP).

The company holds a 95% share in the JV, while the remaining 5% is held by the PFCIP Administrative Commission. In the initial phase, the plant will have a capacity of 10,000m³ per day, with commercial operations targeted to commence by the first quarter of 2015.

Sembcorp China’s second agreement is to provide wastewater treatment to companies located in a 60.3km² industrial park in the west of the Panjin Liaodong Bay New District. The company plans to complete a CNY185m ($30m) industrial wastewater treatment plant with an initial capacity of 22,000m³ per day by early 2015.

Sembcorp China CEO Alan Yau said that the agreements build on the momentum created with the signing of the strategic cooperation framework between the company and the Liaoning Provincial Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in 2011.

"Sembcorp is excited to embark on these new projects and extend our expertise in complex industrial wastewater treatment to more industrial parks in Liaoning," Yau added.
