Severn Trent selects Imtech as technology partner for water projects

UK-based regulated water and sewage company Severn Trent Water has selected European technical services provider Royal Imtech’s company Capula as its strategic technology partner for its different water and wastewater projects, until 2020.

Under the multi-million dollar contract, Capula will provide large motor control centre replacements; provide support for complex IT, automation, and real-time IT solutions; and aid Severn Trent Water deliver water projects.

Imtech CEO René van der Bruggen said the company acquired Capula in May 2012 to strengthen its technical solutions related to the field of process automation in the UK energy and utility markets.

"Capula specialises in delivering advanced control systems as well as real time business intelligence, IT performance systems and high-tech telemetry solutions," Bruggen added.

"These competences make it possible for customers like Severn Trent Water to implement effective operational management systems by integration of new and existing instrumentation, control and automation (ICA) solutions to improve operational efficiency
and business performance and meet regulatory compliance targets."

UK water regulator, the Water Services Regulation Authority, manages funding in the investments in instrumentation, ICA and other systems for the country’s water sector, and allocates funds in five year asset management plans (AMP).

Severn Trent’s AMP 2020 is a strategic plan to manage technical infrastructure and other assets to an agreed standard of service delivery.

The AMP generally uses a systematic approach to manage more than a single asset that are co-dependent and deliver the project as per the required standards.

Capula was selected after an extensive European procurement process.
