Sound Global to build new Chinese sewage treatment plants

Hong-Kong-based water and wastewater treatment solutions provider Sound Global has won bids to build two sewage treatment plants in northern China.

The company will construct the Jianmin sewage treatment plant (Phase I) in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis. It will also construct a water supply and sewage treatment plant for the Western Industrial Zone in Qian’an City.

The Jianmin sewage treatment plant will have a daily treatment capacity of 30,000t. The company will invest RMB50m ($8m) in the project, which has a licensed operating term of 29 years.

Phase I construction of the water supply and sewage treatment plant consists of a water supply plant with a designed capacity of around 15,000t a day, a sewage treatment plant with a designed capacity of around 10,000t a day and a portion of the auxiliary drainage pipeline. In future, the designed capacity of the project will be increased to approximately 30,000t a day and approximately 20,000t a day respectively.

The company will invest approximately RMB59.3m ($9.63m) in the project, which has a licensed operating term of 25 years.

Sound Global chairman Wen Yibo said that the company has continued forward after winning BOT projects and entrusted operation projects in the southern counties of Shaanxi province.

"Sound Global has successfully won the bid for a BOT project for Jianmin Sewage Treatment Plant (Phase I) in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, which will have significant positive impact on the sewage treatment market in China, especially in the southern region of Shaanxi province," Yibo added.

"Sound Global will fully leverage on its competitive edge in technology, capital, management and complete industry chain to provide effective solutions for sewage prevention and treatment in the southern region of Shaanxi province."
