Texas grants funds for water and wastewater system developments

Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in the US has granted over $31m financial assistance for water and wastewater system upgrades and developments in parts of the state.

Around $4,055,000 of the entire amount has been allotted for three rural projects by the US state authority.

Greater Texoma Utility Authority has received $27,310,000 on behalf of the City of Sherman (Grayson County) for water system improvements.

The amount is intended to be used for expansion of the existing water treatment plant in the city and also for construction of a storage tank having a capacity for 1.5 million-gallon of water.

The project, which represents one of the recommended water management strategies in the 2012 State Water Plan, is expected to deliver additional surface water for Grayson County. It will enable the City of Sherman to meet its growing water demands for the increasing population.

The City of Alba (Wood County) has received a share of $840,000 which will be used for the planning, design and construction costs associated with its wastewater treatment plant modernisation and upgrade.

TWDB has also approved around $400,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, of which $200,000 has been granted as loan and $200,000 as loan forgiveness, to the City of Fayetteville (Fayette County).

This funding is expected to help the city in replacing one of its oldest water wells and increase reliability of an existing water system which serves a small community in eastern Fayette County.

Financial assistance of $2,815,000 has been designated for the Port O’Connor Improvement District (Calhoun County), which is expected to support the district’s water system upgrades.

The funds will be used by the district for improving its water treatment facility and distribution system, which will help it to expand and maintain service for the area.
