Underwriters Laboratories launches global water systems validation service

US-based safety consulting and certification company Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has launched a third party validation service for products that carry, treat or process drinking water.

UL life and health sciences business vice president and general manager Anil Patel said that the company has the responsibility to address the needs of its clients and their respective industries.

"As drinking water regulations vary based on individual country standards, our team understands the need to provide manufacturers an alternative, or additional, service to the traditional certification of drinking water products," Patel added.

The company will issue certificates of validation to products that meet manufacturer’s claims.

UL offers the service through its testing facilities in South Bend, Indiana and Bangalore, India.

UL India water business and operations manager TNVV Rao said: "As the need for safe drinking water increases globally, there is an increase in the amount of treatment devices that claim to be useful for the reduction of a variety of water contaminants."

The company has plans to assist manufacturers with the validation of their drinking water products on a global scale, following the expansion of its water laboratory operations in 2011 to Bangalore.
