US water authority begins construction on water pipeline

The Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority has commenced work to build a $14m water pipeline in Jasper County, in the US state of Indiana.

The 14-mile water line is expected to pump treated Savannah River water to residents in Levy, Limehouse and Bellinger Hill in the county.

Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority utility spokesman Matthew Brady said that saltwater intrusion is affecting the public well system currently used by many of the residents, which taps into the Upper Floridan Aquifier.

"Taste and odor are very personal things. Anytime you go from well to surface water, some folks may notice it, but in general it’s a very minimal difference," Brady said.

The new water line will begin near the utility’s Purrysburg Water Treatment Plant, close to the Savannah River, and extend through the Levy-Limehouse-Bellinger Hill area.
