Vinci Construction wins two water contracts in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabian National Water Company has selected Vinci Construction UK for two water contracts with a combined value of £110m ($178m).

Under the contracts, Vinci, along with its joint venture partner Al Muhaidib Contracting Company (AMC), will design and build a reservoir and a lifting station in Saudi Arabia.

The scope of first contract will include designing and building a 1.5 million cubic metre water storage facility for the Briman strategic water reservoir project, and thereafter operating and maintaining it for a period of one year.

Vinci and AMC, under the second contract, will design the Al Khumra lifting station, procure equipments and material, and construct it.

Upon completion, the joint partners will also provide year-long operational and maintenance services for the station.

Vinci Construction UK Gulf Region managing director Ivan Norris said the company is working with AMC on two National Water Company initiatives.

"These projects play a crucial part in the water infrastructure in the country and we are pleased to use our expertise to deliver the projects," Norris added.

National Water Company chief executive officer Loay Al-Musallam said the company has initiated a £3.4bn ($5.5bn) programme to upgrade and develop water and wastewater services in cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca and Taif.

"The company has succeeded in implementing a large number of strategic projects within this allocation including the creation of strategic reservoirs, transmission lines, constructing new pumping and lifting stations, household water and sewage services and the rehabilitation of existing pumping stations," Al-Musallam added.

The lifting station will be used to collect treated water from the existing plants into an underground wet well and pumping station.
