Water Corp, Tenix partner on Pilbara wastewater treatment alliance

Water Corp has selected Tenix as a preferred partner for the Pilbara Wastewater Treatment Alliance, a $200m project which will provide improvements to wastewater services in Pilbara, Western Australia.

As part of the upgrade project, Karratha wastewater treatment plant no 1 and the South Hedland wastewater treatment plant will be upgraded to have a capacity of ten million litres per day by June 2014.

Water Corp general manager Keith Cadee said Tenix has been selected as the preferred partner after a seven-month competitive tender process.

"Works are expected to start on-site later this year after detailed design work is completed and final approvals are in place," Cadee said.

"The alliance will also construct new recycling plants in South Hedland and Karratha to treat wastewater to a standard suitable for irrigating areas such as ovals, road verges and golf courses.

When complete, the wastewater treatment plants will each have the capacity to produce six million litres per day of treated wastewater for re-use."
