Xylem and PUB announce results of two-year oxidation study

Xylem, a global water technology provider, and Singapore’s national water agency PUB have announced the results for baseline and preliminary test results of a two-year advanced oxidation process (AOP) pilot study.

The pilot study was conducted at the Choa Chu Kang Waterworks in Singapore, and demonstrates that ozone-based AOP is capable of removing taste and odour compounds as well as tracing contaminants in water supply.

The process being studied may be key to the large-scale implementation of this technology, both for drinking-water production and water reclamation, according to Xylem.

PUB chief technology officer Harry Seah said that the utility had, over the last two years, built up a water industry of local and international companies, with innovation and technology development as it key pillar.

"Collaborative research is an important part of this, and the first-year results from the AOP pilot study are a testament to the value of PUB’s partnership with Xylem," added Seah.

Using each others’ resources, the two entities are conducting applied research, sharing knowledge and building joint capabilities.

The joint water handling and treatment capabilities the partnership is collaborating on are expected to drive the growth of Singapore and the water industry.

Xylem president and CEO Gretchen McClain said, "The preliminary findings from this inaugural study mark a major milestone for the WaterHub research and development center."
