Cal Water partners with Badger Meter to help conserve water in drought-ridden California, US

California Water Service (Cal Water) has formed a partnership with Badger Meter to launch Water Focus Report Program in the US state.

The programme is aimed at water conservation in the state which had been suffering from prolonged drought for the last four years.

Customized Water Focus Report will be issued to the each of the utility’s customers for free which will indicate their average daily water use and also offer comparisons with their water budget and similar homes in the area.

Badger Meter will be offering the timely measurement data for the utility’s customers under the program which will be carried out regionally over the next two months.

Reports will be delivered to the individuals through mail for the initial three months, after which those will be sent through email, only if the customer wishes to continue the service.

Cal Water Drought Management and Conservation director Ken Jenkins said: "As we continue to endure historic drought conditions, we want to keep offering our customers new, additional tools to help them reduce their water use and meet the state’s mandated water use reductions."

California has mandated a 32% water usage reduction target to withstand the ongoing water crisis.

Pilots for the programme had been carried out in the Los Altos District this summer, following which the utility had refined the report according to customer suggestions.

"Our goal for these reports is to help customers understand more about their water use and how it stacks up to their water budgets and to other local properties of similar size.

"We also want to provide helpful information that customers can use to save more water." Jenkins added.
