Trility has commenced operations on the Northern Water Treatment Plant (NWTP) at Kinduro near Townsville in Australia.

The $67m NWTP project, which was funded by the Townsville City Council and Queensland Government, has delivered first water to the residents in the northern suburbs of Townsville.

Trility managing director Francois Gouws said the company was pleased to see residents receive water from the plant after the completion of operational testing in recent months.

"This plant will guarantee the long term security of water to the residents in the surrounding region, as well as increasing capacity and ensuring ongoing improvements to the quality and delivery of water supplies to the people of Townsville over the next 25 years," Gouws said.

The NWTP project required an upgrade to existing plant and equipment at the Douglas Water Treatment Plant and the design, build and operation of the new membrane filtration water treatment plant at Kinduro.

Water processed through membrane filtration at the NWTP will also flow into the Mt Louisa Reservoir. A water stabilisation facility has also been constructed at Crystal Creek to precondition water to be treated at Kinduro.

Trility was awarded the contract to design and construct the plant and subcontracted construction to Brookfield Multiplex. The company also agreed to operate the NWTP for a term of 20 years.
