PeroxyChem to construct new PAA plant for Memphis city’s wastewater

Chemical manufacturing company PeroxyChem has received a contract for the construction of a new peracetic acid (PAA) production plant in Memphis, Tennessee, US.

The company was selected in a competitive bid to provide the city’s PAA locally.

The facility is expected to provide safe and efficient wastewater treatment technology to the city as well as eliminate the need for costly shipping, thereby saving funds and increasing efficiency.

The City of Memphis had also conducted extensive research and testing to determine PAA as an efficient disinfection method for the city’s wastewater.

City of Memphis public works director Robert Knecht said: “We appreciate PeroxyChem’s willingness to help us create a wastewater treatment programme in keeping with the entrepreneurial, economically focused and creative spirit of our city.

“Sourcing PAA locally from PeroxyChem’s new Memphis facility will be an economic and environmental win for our city.”

A ground-breaking ceremony was held at the Maynard C. Stiles wastewater treatment plant and construction work will begin shortly.

The new Memphis facility will expand PeroxyChem’s portfolio of peroxygen chemistry manufacturing.

PeroxyChem CEO Bruce Lerner said: “PeroxyChem proudly produces the highest quality peroxygen chemistries, including PAA for wastewater treatment.
