Smart water networks enable utilities to identify leaks, better serve customers and conserve water, but challenges due to power supply and location can prevent their implementation. Pipes are often difficult to access and to complicate this, there is no basic power supply in pipes as there are in other electrical utilities.
Self-powered water monitoring solutions
Our PT1 water monitoring solution is a hydro-powered multi-sensing unit for use in water abstraction wells, district metering areas (DMA) and custody transfer measurement of potable water. It minimises pressure drop with smart and innovative energy management. The system measures flow and pressure at high accuracy levels everywhere in the network without the need of power supply. It delivers data to manage smart water networks, reduce water leakage, avoid pipe bursts and carry out quality checks.
Water in the pipes sets the turbine blades of the PT1 in rotation. The turbine is connected to a generator that converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy to charge the integrated battery that powers the PT1’s sensors, data logger and data transmitter. A smart charge controller optimises energy storage at peak times and minimises pressure drops for the rest of the day. Smart firmware regulates the data transmission frequency based on the available power and consumption patterns.
The system has two integrated pressure sensors and can sense the flow rate by measuring the differential pressure and / or rotation speed of the turbine.

Customers benefit from a turnkey solution with instant data transmission, without the need for additional sensors, batteries, data logger or data transmitter. We enable two-way self-powered real-time communication, as well as interoperability with any custom software.
Our system harvests energy with an integrated hydro-power unit at the point of use. It is an all-in-one device that is very easy to install and start-up.
Its smart energy management offers low pressure loss as it only harvests energy a few hours a day. High-precision measurement is made possible by several integrated and inter-connected sensors.
It has a single moving part, ensuring long-term reliability and has an IP68-rated casing for submersion in flooded chambers.

Hydraulic water system analysis and Cloud-based monitoring solutions
In addition to our self-powered sensing and control solutions, we offer a hydraulic analysis of our customers water network in cooperation with our partners. We develop concepts for water loss reduction and provide technical support during implementation.
Pydro also offers a Cloud-based software solution for real-time monitoring and leakage detection. This system monitors the water flow and reports problems when a pipe-specific limit value is exceeded. Even minor deviations are detected and displayed in the form of a visual diagram.
