Honeywell’s UOP launches advanced bioreactor system for industrial wastewater treatment

UOP, a unit of Honeywell, has launched its XCeed bioreactor system, which can be used to decontaminate complex industrial waste streams.

The integrated biological wastewater treatment system uses Honeywell’s immobilised cell bioreactor technology to remove organic and inorganic contaminants from wastewater.

Industrial, manufacturing and groundwater remediation facilities can use the new system to meet contaminant removal specifications for wastewater discharge or reuse.

UOP has commercially launched the bioreactor following 50 successful installations.

The company has installed its XCeed bioreactor system worldwide in food and beverage, chemical and textile manufacturing, groundwater remediation and refinery and petrochemical applications.

Honeywell’s UOP catalysts senior vice-president and general manager Mike Millard said: "Manufacturers globally are subject to stricter wastewater regulations and fees, which creates a need for more cost-effective treatment solutions that meet regulatory requirements and more stringent internal treatment standards.

"Using our expertise in process development, we have designed a high-performance biological treatment system that meets requirements efficiently and cost-effectively.

"UOP is using 100 years of experience purifying various process streams to create superior contaminant removal solutions."

It can be used as a cost-effective and modular system for wastewater treatment and promises a number of advantages, such as low sludge production, minimal energy consumption and requires less operator attention.
