Illinois American Water set to complete linking Sadorus water system with Champaign County

Illinois American Water is set to complete linking the Sadorus water system with the Champaign County water distribution system.

Under this investment of around $1.2m, installation of around three mile of water main to link the two systems is being undertaken.

Following the inspection of new 8-inch water main, the Environmental Protection Agency has approved permitting.

Illinois American Water has begun flushing the water main and completing Sadorus water system. This work is expected to continue for several weeks.

Illinois American Water senior manager for field operations and production Dave Farrar said that flushing the water system includes rushing of water through the water mains and fire hydrants.

The fire hydrants are also being monitored and operated to support fire protection in the community.

According to the company, there will be no interruptions in water service due to the installation work.

Illinois American Water has already informed customers that they may experience a temporary drop in water pressure or see some discolored water for a short period of time when crews are flushing nearby.

Illinois American Water bought the Village of Sadorus water system at the end of March 2017. Among the future investment projects in Sadorus will comprise upgrading of undersized and outdated water mains.

The company also plans to install new fire hydrants to boost fire protection.

Farrar added: “When Sadorus entrusted us with its water system, we made a commitment to provide the best product possible. This investment will help improve the taste and odor of Sadorus’ drinking water.”
