Itron to upgrade water metering infrastructure for North Miami Beach city in Florida, US

City of North Miami Beach in Florida, US has selected the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) developed by technology firm Itron, in order to upgrade its water distribution system and ensure recovery of lost water.

The solution will be used by the water utility in the city to improve its customer service, protect revenue, forecast consumption and prevent leaks.

Detailed consumption and meter information alerts collected through Itron Analytics will enable the city to analyse flow of water and support district metering.

Scheduled to be installed by summer 2015, the solution will also give access to consumption information to the users via a secure web portal. This is expected to reduce the water bills for the consumers as they will be able to manage their water usage and conserve it on their own.

AMI solution will also allow the utility to have remote access to the water meters which can improve its operational efficiency, billing accuracy and ensure worker safety.

North Miami Beach city manager Ana M. Garcia said: "North Miami Beach looks forward to offering new services and capabilities to our customers with Itron’s advanced metering solution. Our goal is to drive down costs for the utility and our customers and reduce the amount of water we produce."
