Veolia to construct wastewater treatment plants for Bacchus

Veolia Water Technologies has secured a contract to design and construct full turnkey wastewater treatment plants for two of Shanghai Bacchus’ (Bacchus) greenfield factories in Tianjin and Chengdu, China.

Veolia will incorporate many of its technologies such as AnoxKaldnes Biological Activated Sludge (BAS), Biothane Advanced Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB), and the tertiary and sludge treatments into these plants.

After the completion of the wastewater treatment plants, the two greenfield factories will join the existing production unit of Bacchus in Shanghai.

The wastewater generated from the two production facilities has high concentrations of suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD).

The two projects will feature Veolia’s high-performing anaerobic reactor, called Biothane Advanced UASB in order to mitigate the high concentration of effluents present in wastewater generated from Bacchus’s factories.

Biothane Advanced UASB reactors have high organic loading capacity and superior sludge retention capabilities that can best treat food and beverage-type effluents.

The wastewater treatment solution can also produce biogas that serves as an alternate energy source, thereby enabling renewable energy utilisation for Bacchus, Veolia stated.
