New Partnership to Address Water Safety Needs in Developing Countries

Procter & Gamble, Africare, H2O for Life and the Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (Wasrag) have formed a new partnership to address the urgent need for safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education in schools of developing countries.

The partnership will bring five million gallons of clean water and sanitation and hygiene education to 30 schools in Malawi and Tanzania.

Africare will use its expertise to help implement the project, while Procter & Gamble will provide PUR water purification packets through its children’s safe drinking water programme.

H2O for Life will connect schoolchildren in North America with those in Malawi and Tanzania to educate them about water crises.

According to UNICEF reports, more than half the schools in developing countries do not have safe water.

The water treatment will cost each school $20,000, with rotary clubs and districts providing a sixth of the funding.
