UNICEF Funds Potable Water Improvements in Kerala

The Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) of India has started a pilot project to improve the quality of potable water across Kerala in southern India.

The project will be funded by UNICEF’s Water and Environment Sanitation Division, according to The New Indian Express.

The project will identify well water and alter the construction and location of wells scientifically to minimise water contamination.

Representatives of the local body and water experts will carry out reconnaissance surveys in various locations and track down wells that pose a health hazard.

A technical team from the CWRDM will then visit these wells and recommend alterations based on characteristics such as the construction of the well and leech pits near it.
