Hurricane Irene hits New Jersey water treatment plant

Operations at New Jersey American Water’s Canoe Brook water treatment plant have slowed after Hurricane Irene hit the US east coast last week, causing major floods.

The floods have disrupted the plant’s water treatment and distribution processes and the utility’s customers in Summit, West Orange, Millburn, Maplewood, Irvington and Springfield have experienced no water or low water pressure.

The company is undertaking measures to resolve the issue and estimates that full operations will resume within several days.
