US Air Force to clean up groundwater at Arizona plant

The US Air Force has signed an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to clean up groundwater at Air Force Plant 44 in Tucson, Arizona, US.

The site’s groundwater is contaminated with volatile organic compounds and other chemicals such as TCE and 1,4-dioxane.

Under the terms of the agreement, the US Air Force will work in collaboration with the EPA and the ADEQ to clean up areas affected by Air Force Plant 44, which lies south of Los Reales Road.

Jane Diamond, EPA director of the Superfund Division in the Pacific Southwest Region, said that the agreement provides a new level of confidence that the work by the military will meet all EPA and state environmental requirements for completion.
