Xylem to supply water pumping solution to support irrigation in Vietnam

US based water technology firm Xylem has won a $1.7m contract with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam, under which it will supply pumping solutions to support irrigation in the country.

Technology solutions from the firm will ensure reliability of water supply at the Phu My pumping station in the Bac Ninh province in Vietnam.

The pumping station will irrigate around 5,600ha of cultivated land in the region.

The deal is line with Vietnam’s ‘Strengthening Water Management and Irrigation Systems Rehabilitation Project’ which is aimed at improving the irrigation capacity in the province.

The pumping station to be delivered by the US firm will derive water from the Duong River during rainy season. It will assist in irrigation of agricultural land in the Thuan Thanh district.

Xylem will deliver its Flygt pumping solutions for the facility. With a capacity of 39,000m³ per hour (m³/h), it will be a principal part of the irrigation scheme in the Vietnamese district.

The facility, which is expected to be operational by the year end, will be beneficial for 25,000 local residents.

Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Bac Ninh Project Management Unit (PMU) director Dang Cong Huong said, "Xylem’s extensive water expertise and advanced technologies for addressing water challenges such as this give us confidence that this initiative will have a very positive impact on the region."
