Sudan Secures $350m Loan for Dams Project
Sudan has received a $350m concessional loan from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development to build two dams and an airport.
Out of the total loan $175m will be used to raise two dams over a period of seven years, according to businessday.co.za.
Dams and Electricity Minister As-Siddiq Mohamed Ali al-Sheikh said raising the Atbara and Sitteet dams on the River Nile north of Khartoum would provide an extra 200MW of electricity.
The dams will also irrigate 4,200km² of agricultural land.
The Merowe Dam generates 80% of Sudan's 1,250MW power requirement.
