18 April 2011

Uganda's National Water and Sewerage Corporation is to construct a water treatment plant in Katosi and will upgrade the Ggaba complex with an investment of €212m ($306m).

The water from the plant will serve Kampala and its surrounding areas.

Kampala's daily water production capacity is 160,000m³, compared with Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, which have production capacities of 400,000m³ and 500,000m³, respectively.

Ugandan Water Minister Maria Mutagamba said the plant will serve 2.4 million people by 2025 through its additional production capacity of 120,000m³ per day.
