GE to acquire water treatment filtration membrane manufacturer IMT Solutions

Technology giant General Electric (GE) has agreed to buy Dutch ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes manufacturer IMT Solutions for an undisclosed amount.

GE intends to expand its ZeeWeed advanced ultrafiltration hollow-fiber membrane portfolio through the acquisition.

IMT’s ultrafiltration membrane technology for water treatment includes products such as SevenBore ultrafiltration membranes, which have been designed for high-pressure applications and can be used for upstream offshore oil and gas operations.

IMT Solutions general manager Nico Marsman said: "Our technologies have great synergy and together will be able to reach a broader market."

Integration of IMT products will help GE to increase its water treatment offerings and push its global business reach along with its commercial and execution capability.

GE Power & Water, water and process technologies president and CEO Heiner Markhoff said: "GE is committed to continued technology advancements and growth in water reuse, wastewater and tough-to-treat water technologies.

"The acquisition of IMT Solutions and its polyethersulphone membranes will complement our current offerings and offers terrific opportunities for further growth."

GE’s ZeeWeed technology is used for producing potable water and is suitable for treatment of sewage water from industrial oil processing complex as well. It is equipped with semipermeable membrane barrier which can reject suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxins and other pathogens, to produce treated water with high purity and low silt density.

The firm has recently launched two new products under its ZeeWeed offerings including the ZeeWeed 1500 rackless modular system (RMS) and the ZeeWeed 1000 next generation cassette (NGC).
