Nexus eWater receives global certification for water recycling technology in the US

US-Australian firm Nexus eWater has received global certification for its On-Site Home Water Recycling system for use in California, US.

The technology, which has received approvals for the NSF/ANSI 350 global standard, allows safe recycling of two out of every 3gal of greywater in home for non-potable, approved usage.

Drainwater from showers, laundry and hand sinks are termed as grey water, which usually accounts for two-thirds of indoor water in homes.

Certification for the ‘NEXtreater’ home water recycler will enable its use by builders, water and sewer agencies and homeowners in the state for the construction of drought-resilient homes.

Nexus eWater CEO Mark Petroff said: "Certification of our NEXtreater is an historic milestone for residential water conservation and the War on Drought; the drought-resilient home has now arrived.

"Homes in California and other water scarce states can now safely and inexpensively recycle two out of every 3gal in their home."

The certification is expected to benefit the state especially amidst the drought conditions.

Petroff added: "Despite California’s declared Drought Emergency, there were no certified products on the market, until today."

According to the 2013 California Plumbing Code, the treated residential greywater can be reused in a wide range of applications.

The City of Lancaster in California has announced incentives for installations of such systems in new homes.

Federal, State and local Health authorities, advocacy groups including the NRDC, Alliance for Water Efficiency and others, along with other plumbing code authorities and water treatment firms have developed the NSF/ANSI standard.

NEXtreater had to undergo six months of stringent testing and sampling procedures to qualify for the certification.
