IDB to Fund Suriname Water Project

The Inter-American Development Bank will extend a $12m loan to Suriname to finance improvements in water services across the country’s coastal areas.

The loan will help Suriname upgrade its potable water service for up to 50,000 people and improve the efficiency of its water service operators.

The programme will enhance the water supply distribution system in coastal regions through the rehabilitation of works, which will reduce water losses. It will also rehabilitate ageing water networks, replace old pipes and install residential household connections and water meters.

Within a period of five years the programme is expected to ensure more reliable and higher-quality water services to 11,600 households.
