WABAG made a number of contributions to the IWA (International Water Association) World Water Congress and Exhibition, which was held for the first time in Vienna from 7-12 September 2008 at the city’s Austria Centre.
Following events in Marrakech (2004) and Beijing (2006), this year the biennial World Water Congress was held for the first time in Vienna and was officially opened on Sunday 7 September by the Austrian federal chancellor, Dr Alfred Gusenbauer.
The Congress was attended by some 3,000 delegates from the spheres of science and research, politics, water supply, wastewater treatment, industry and technology. In addition, 170 companies took part in the accompanying exhibition on a total of 6,000m² of floor space. The entire spectrum of water supply and wastewater treatment topics was covered in the course of over 600 papers.
WABAG and the exhibition
On its stand, WABAG presented its comprehensive programme of supplies and services. The main focus was on the company’s innovative processes such as MARAPUR® (advanced membrane filtration), BIODEN® (biological denitrification for drinking water treatment), BIOZONE®-AD (sludge disintegration) and its thermal desalination technologies.
WABAG and the congress
In addition, WABAG participated in the scientific discourse with two papers:
- DI F. Klegraf: MARAPUR – a new process combination for the optimisation of MBR
- Nitrate Removal from Drinking Water in Iran (assessment of three different treatment processes based on pilot-scale investigations)
A joint presentation by IWW, WABAG, Mashhad Water and Wastewater Co., and the Karlsruhe Research Centre concerning the removal of nitrates from saline groundwater was given by the IWW Institute for Water Research, Mülheim, Germany.
WABAG and water Reuse
WABAG was also able to land another success, as Dr Josef Lahnsteiner, the head of WABAG R&D, was appointed to the respected management committee of the IWA specialist group on water reuse (1,700 members) as the representative for Eastern Europe.
The next World Water Congress is to be held in Montreal in 2010.
