Mexico Requires $20.9bn for Water Management Project

The Government of Mexico needs Mex$250bn ($20.9bn) to fund a project to provide sustainable water management for the Valley of Mexico, according to Conagua president Luis Luege.

The programme includes the development of a new framework to improve potable water and sanitation services, upgrading potable water distribution systems, the expansion of wastewater treatment facilities and investment in new water sources, reports bnamericas.com.

Conagua will invest Mex$61.5bn ($5bn) as part of the valley’s sustainable water management programme.

The work includes upgrading the Cutzamala potable water system and the Emisor Oriente and Compania river drainage tunnels, and the construction of the Atotonilco wastewater treatment plant, which will treat 60% of the valley’s wastewater.
