Yokogawa wins large-scale Saudi Arabian water distribution pipeline project

Yokogawa Electric International has won an order from Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corporation (SIPSC) for a large-scale water distribution pipeline project in Saudi Arabia.

The project is being built by Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) between the cities of Yanbu and Medina. It is Yokogawa’s first order from SIPSC for a water distribution pipeline project.

The pipeline project, which is capable of supplying 709,000m³ of potable water per day, will stretch 610km from a seawater desalination plant in Yanbu to the city of Medina and its surrounding districts.

The order includes Yokogawa’s FAST/TOOLS SCADA software and STARDOM network-based control system for monitoring the pipeline, the PRM integrated device management software package for instrumentation monitoring and online diagnosis, pipeline leakage detection systems, and a telecommunications system.

Yokogawa Electric International will also be responsible for engineering, supervising the installation of, and commissioning these products.

The delivery of the products will begin by July 2014, while the new pipeline will come online by August.

Yokogawa Electric International sales division, power and utilities general manager Tetsuya Murai said that Middle Eastern countries and other emerging nations face water shortages and need to build seawater desalination plants and water distribution pipelines.
