Kenya to Purify Indian Ocean Water

Kenya will build a KES2bn ($23.9m) water project to purify water from the Indian Ocean and supply it to residents of Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and Lunga Lunga for domestic and industrial use.

The plant will be built by Dutch Water of the Netherlands using the reverse osmosis membrane process.

The project will be built in three phases, with the first phase starting next year at the Mombasa unit and the second phase, which involves Malindi and Lunga Lunga units, starting in 2012.

The plant will purify up to 450,000l of water every day initially, according to businessdailyafrica.com.
