BHEL and GE India Form JV for Water Treatment Solutions

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) and GE India, a subsidiary of GE US, have formed a joint venture to manufacture water treatment equipment.

Under the agreement, BHEL and GE will jointly engineer and supply water treatment solutions for the Indian market.

The agreement covers membrane-based technologies like reverse osmosis, ultra filtration, electrodialysis and electrodeionisation which will enable BHEL to offer more value added products to its customers.

The water desalination products covered under the agreement will be used for power plants (non-nuclear), industrial application, potable water and municipal desalination plants.

An estimate says treatment market in power generation, potable water and wastewater treatment will reach Rs180bn($3.9) by 2011-15, out of which the power sector alone will require water treatment systems worth Rs8,000($1.7bn).
