DEWA to Float Desalination Plant Contract

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is planning to award contracts worth AED1bn ($272m) in March 2011.

The contract includes the Hassyan desalination plant, which will have a capacity of 120 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD) (545,000m³/d) with its associated 1,500MW power station.

DEWA expects to float the contract by March and commission the plant by 2014, according to khaleejtimes.com.

The project will help DEWA meet water requirements in Dubai.

The state-owned utility is planning to increase its desalination capacity from 330MIGD to 470MIGD.
