Vietnam Signs $1bn Drinking Water Programme with ADB

Asian Development Bank has signed a $1bn financial assistance package with Vietnam to enhance the country’s drinking water access as part of a larger $2.8bn investment programme.

The financial support will help Vietnam improve clean water access for three million families in various cities, including half a million households, which will receive piped water connection for the first time.

As per estimates, four out of every ten families have no connection to a central water supply system and about 40% of treated water is lost before it reaches the user.

The bank is also providing $8m to improve clean water and sanitation services as part of a forest conservation package for the country.
