ADB to Fund Ugandan Water Plant

The African Development Bank (ADB) is to provide $130m for the construction of a water plant on River Ririma in Manafwa District, Uganda.

The project is expected to benefit 20,000 households in the country, according to the Daily Monitor.

Vembco Construction was awarded the contract for the construction of the plant, which is expected to be completed by July 2012.

ADB’s senior gender expert for water and sanitation programme Amel Hamza said communities living around the slopes of Mount Elgon do not have clean water for domestic use.
