TEPCO Water Processing Facility to Begin Operations this Month

A new water treatment facility to treat radioactive water at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan will commence operations from 15 June.

France’s Areva will provide the water treatment equipment which can reduce radioactivity in water to 1/10,000th of its original level.

The nuclear plant operator TEPCO said the processing facility will be capable of treating 1,200 tonnes of radioactive water a day.

Water has been poured in large quantities to cool the heavily damaged reactors at the nuclear plant, caused by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in March.
