Southern Seawater Alliance to Expand Australian Desalination Plant

The Southern Seawater Alliance, a consortium led by Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas, has won a €350m contract to expand a desalination plant near Binningup, Western Australia.

The scope of work includes design, turnkey construction, operation and maintenance of the plant, including water pipelines and other infrastructure needed to integrate the desalination plant with the water supply system.

The State Government of Western Australia’s plan is designed to boost supplies of water to Perth, Mandurah, Goldfields and other towns in the area by December 2012.

On completion of the project, the plant will provide 100 billion litres of drinking water per year.
