Romania to Spend $110m on Wastewater Upgrades

Drinking and wastewater supply systems in Bistrita-Nasaud, Romania, are to be modernised and expanded to combat water problems faced by the county.

The local government will contribute 2% towards the €83m ($110.7m) project, which is financed under the Sectoral Operational Programme Environment.

The project will expand 61km of transmission mains, rehabilitate another 31km and expand a 59km water distribution network to improve drinking water supply.

About 35km of distribution networks will be rehabilitated to build five new pumping stations and 13 tanks, according to financiarul.ro.

To improve wastewater treatment, the project will build sewers along 15km, expand 73km of sewerage pipe and rehabilitate a further 11km.

The work will be complete in 49 months and all the networks will be operational by 2013.
