North American Water Reuse Market to Reach $1.63bn in 2016

North America’s industrial and municipal water reuse market is forecast to grow to $1.63bn by 2016 from $1.02bn in 2009, according to a Frost & Sullivan analysis.

The study, North American Industrial and Municipal Water Reuse Markets, attributed the growth to water scarcity and water use restrictions.

The research found that there is slow progress in this industry, although the outlook is promising.

The Texas-based consulting service provider said water reuse applications would provide long-term return on investment, operational effectiveness, reduced energy usage and cost-saving, which justified capital expenditure in this sector.

According to the analysis, population explosion in major US urban centres, ageing infrastructure and a lack of funding are key challenges for the sector.

The study, however, said infrastructure enhancement would be better equipped to adapt to population growth and stringent effluent discharge requirements, as well as address issues related to ageing water infrastructure.

It suggested building awareness regarding the benefits of water reuse applications that can facilitate industry growth.
