Brazilian State to Invest in Sanitation Projects

Brazil’s Parana state will receive R$142m ($82m) from the country’s federal banks to finance sanitation and water projects in the state capital of Curitiba.

Federal savings bank Caixa Economica Federal will lend R$85.6m ($49m) and national development bank BNDES will provide R$56.1m ($32m) to finance the projects.

The majority of the funding will be invested to improve sewerage services while the remaining portion will be used for potable water supplies.

Curitiba aims to increase its sewage services to 93% from 90% by 2012, according to waterworld.com.
