Brazil Plans Sanitation Investment

Brazil is planning to invest R$242m ($145m) through its federal budget to improve sanitation services in the north-east state of Ceara through to 2011.

Of the total investment, R$226m ($135m) will be used to improve sewerage services and R$16m ($9.5m) for potable water services.

The sanitation investment will benefit five municipalities in the state as well as state capital Fortaleza, which will receive a major portion worth R$192m ($115m) to improve its water supply system.

The coastal town of Taiba will receive R$28m ($16m) while the city of Horizonte will receive R$11m ($6m), according to waterworld.com.
