LiqTech International obtains NSF certification for silicon carbide membranes

Denmark-based clean technology company LiqTech International has received certification for its silicon carbide (SiC) membranes from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

LiqTech said that its membranes were tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI standard 61, which means they are now approved for usage in drinking water systems.

The company claimed that all of its SiC membranes product offerings have successfully passed the toxicological testing required by the NSF. In order to receive the certification, LiqTech’s production facility had been audited by NSF.

LiqTech stated that its ceramic membranes made of Silicon Carbide (SiC) can be used to replace sand filters, cartridge filters and traditional polymer / ceramic membranes.

Some applications are, but not limited to, ground water with the removal of precipitated salts like iron, arsenic and manganese, surface water with the removal of organic suspended solids, and humic acid and sea water with the pre-filtration before reverse osmosis (RO), the company reported.

LiqTech’s CEO, Finn Helmer, said the company was pleased to receive NSF Certification, and said it was a great endorsement for their SiC membranes. They believe it is an important accomplishment as an independent organisation.

"Obtaining certification isn’t an easy task, as the NSF carries high, strict standards in order to protect the public’s health and conducted several inspections and rigorous testing of our membranes in order to meet its standards," Helmer said.
