Sunstone Water partners with STW Water for muncipal wastewater treatment solution in US

STW Water Process & Technologies (STW Water) has signed an agreement with Sunstone Water Group to commercialise the latter’s patented advanced wastewater treatment technology for municipal usage in the US.

Under the agreement, the firms will intergrate their respective technologies and offer a reliable package of water purification services for municipalities.

The treatment process will involve removal of undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids and gases from wastewater, to make it suitable for human consumption.

STW Water president Alan Murphy said: "The Sunstone technology is capable of processing and cleaning this contaminated water to specs that are cleaner than the bottled water that is bought in stores every day.

"We are wasting our precious freshwater resources every minute of every day when we could be reusing it.

"We have the technology to clean and process nearly every type of contaminated water for reuse now. Everyone needs to realise that it is a commodity that has to be conserved in every way possible."

The joint venture, formed by STW Water and the Switzerland-based Sunstone Water Group, has already introduced Sunstone’s modular wastewater treatment system for the State of Texas in the US to process and enable reuse of municipal wastewater.

The firms will jointly conduct a pilot project in one of the major cities in Texas to demonstrate the efficacy of the ‘toilet-to-tap’ processing technology and push its commercial acceptance.

The process is scheduled to start in April this year and will be supervised by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Both companies expect that drought situations and freshwater shortages in several US regions will boost the demand for the technology.

Sunstone’s patented technology is presently being used across Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries. STW Resources will be in charge of its deployment in the US, and is expected to ensure its availability for disaster relief and recovery.
