WABAG Operational Water Management Systems

WABAG is one of the world’s leading companies for the design, construction and operational management of drinking water, wastewater treatment and water reuse plants for both the municipal and industrial sectors. As an international systems supplier, WABAG offers a comprehensive portfolio of technologies and services, which includes sludge treatment and a complete range of desalination techniques.

WABAG plants are designed and built within the framework of an holistic approach, which accounts for both ecological and economic factors. Long-term experience and comprehensive, process technology competencies facilitate the creation of individually planned plants, which match respective, special requirements.

The services offered by the WABAG team include design and engineering, the supply of equipment and retrofitting, installation and supervision, start-up and commissioning, after-sales service and plant operation and cover diverse schemes such as Design-Build-Operate (DBO), Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC), turnkey order realisation, the supply of systems components and the upgrading and enlargement of existing plants.

DRINKING AND INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT

WABAG uses a wide variety of physical, chemical and biological processes to obtain quality drinking water from ground and surface waters. By combining these technologies (multi-barrier systems), the plants are perfectly adapted to individual requirements, thus securing adherence to both current and future needs. Our top processes range from innovative drainage systems, biological denitrification and advanced oxidation, to membrane technologies (micro-, ultra-, nano-filtration, reverse
osmosis, EDR).

For industrial applications, WABAG offers individual solutions for fresh or recycled water processing, which ensure up to 100% water recycling. The major processes involved consist of make-up water treatment, demineralisation, condensate polishing, thermal and chemical degassing, as well as desalination.

INCREASED DESALINATION PERFORMANCE

Within the specific field of desalination, WABAG offers thermal desalination technologies (MED, MVC, TVC, MSF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ion Exchange (IX) and Electrodialysis Processes (ED), including all pre- and post-treatment technologies. With almost 30 years of experience in this field, WABAG has installed over 100 desalination plants worldwide.

SPECIALIST BIOLOGICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT

WABAG provides a range of optimised solutions extending from water softening to almost total nutrient removal. One and two-stage activated sludge processes are employed as key technologies. These conventional wastewater treatment methods are used as standard solutions for average to high purification requirements. Bio-filtration (BIOPUR) is utilised either as an alternative or supplement. In particular, the two-stage concepts and bio-filtration represent an economic answer for enlargement and upgrading measures.

The FLUOPUR process employs moving bed technology for the biological cleaning of municipal and industrial wastewater. A WABAG-patented material is used as a substrate for the biomass and the process is characterised by a reduced space requirement, low-cost realisation and flexibility of application. Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) constitute the latest system to become available for maximum cleaning performance and represent a guarantee for water reuse.

During the past ten years, WABAG has completed around 350 municipal wastewater treatment plants in various countries.

WATER REUSE AND RECYCLING SOLUTIONS

In recent years, WABAG has carried out a range of water recycling and reuse projects for both municipal and industrial purposes. If requested, WABAG can provide 100% recycling right up to direct potable reuse. For this specific field WABAG employs the following key technologies:

  • Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
  • Membrane Filtration (MF, UF, NF)
  • Reverse Osmosis (RO)
  • Biofiltration

SLUDGE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES

For WABAG, sludge treatment represents an integral part of economically optimised wastewater treatment. We offer sludge dewatering, sludge digestion (stabilisation) and sludge disintegration (BIOZON-AD process) technologies for environmentally compatible sludge treatment and disposal. The treatment of sewage sludge makes a considerable contribution to environmental protection, while the utilisation of flammable biogas provides resource-saving energy generation.
