City of Houston picks Enchanted Rock to support NEWPP Expansion facility

The City of Houston has awarded a contract to Enchanted Rock to support its Northeast Water Purification Plant (NEWPP) Expansion facility.

The contract will see the use of Enchanted Rock’s natural gas-fuelled resiliency microgrid solution to provide the facility backup during power outages.

During maintenance and outages, the backup will provide emergency power for the required finished water production capacity.

With the solution, the city will be able to meet the regulatory requirements specified by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for water treatment facilities.

City of Houston NEWPP Expansion Project project director Ravi Kaleyatodi said: “The NEWPP project will add 320 million gallons per day by 2024 to the existing water plant’s capacity.

“The City of Houston evaluated several companies and selected Enchanted Rock for this project based on technical requirements, performance of past projects, and competitive pricing.”

The new facility is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Once operational, the facility will service Harris and Fort Bend counties.

Enchanted Rock’s integrated Reliability on Call (iROC) service will provide Houston’s NEWPP facility receive reliable backup at affordable cost.
