Water Corporation invests $10.8m to boost water supply in Western Australia

The Water Corporation of Western Australia is planning to install new water supply main to enhance the reliability of supply service in Northampton and the northern suburbs of Geraldton, under a $10.8m project.

The Government of Western Australia has started working on the project under which a new 10.7km water supply main will be constructed from a pump station along Edward Road in Meru.

This new water main will be connected to the present water tank off Chapman Valley Road in Moresby, which is also known as the Nanson Road Tank.

Under this scheme, water supply service to Northampton and the northern Geraldton suburbs of Morseby, Waggrakine, Glenfield, Drummond Cove, White Peak and Buller will be improved, and around 50 Western Australian jobs are expected to be generated.

The project, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of this calendar year, will be executed in two stages.

During the first stage of the project, the water main along Chapman Valley Road, Webber Road, Fairfax Road, Polo Road and Edward Road will be built by Geraldton-based company, WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd.

The second stage of the work will involve drilling two sections of water main under the Chapman River, and the Perth-based company Power on Cabling will undertake the work. This second stage is anticipated to commence this October.

Furthermore, as part of the project, the residents of the regions along the pipe route will be informed in advance with regard to any interruptions to their water supply.

Western Australia Water Minister Dave Kelly said: “The McGowan Government is committed to investing in water infrastructure projects that benefit the regions.

“We plan to invest $56.9 million in water and wastewater infrastructure in the Mid West region in 2018-19 alone.

“These projects will not only improve the water supply and reliability of the area, but go on to support WA jobs and local businesses.”
