Woodinville Water District to install Apex metering technology

Apex CoVantage has been selected by contractor Ferguson Meter & Automation Group to install its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system to address water loss issues in Woodinville Water District in Washington, US.

Apex will use its ProField technology to improve the existing customer information system of the utility in a bid to automate the data transfer process for the installation of a mixture of full-exchange meters and retrofits for the meters. It will also add a wireless transmitter.

The system increases the utility’s efficiency by freeing workers from the task of manually reading meters. The utility will be able to accurately read customer meters once the AMI software system is fully operational. It can prevent water loss by quickly identifying potential large pipe breaks and other issues through the visual monitoring of incidents and irregularities.

Ferguson Meter & Automation Group FlexNet project manager Misty Cobb said that the participation of Apex will minimise the deployment burden that would otherwise be placed on the district in a cost-efficient manner.

"We selected Apex CoVantage for the installation because of our confidence in their ability to effectively and efficiently install the AMI system," Cobb added.

Scheduled to begin in May, the project is set to last around five months until completion.
