Sound Global wins 13 sewage treatment plant contracts in China

Beijing-based water treatment solutions provider Sound Global has won a contract to construct 13 sewage treatment plants in Tongzi County, Guizhou Province of China.

The public-private partnership (PPP) bundled deal consists of No.2 Sewage Treatment Plant in Tongzi County, along with 12 sewage treatment plants and other additional pipe network works supporting the facilities.

The project will comply with the Grade 1B standards defined in the "Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants" and the company will have license for operating the plants for 30 years.

Investments and construction for the project will be completed by the firm under the PPP mode specified by the Chinese Ministry of Finance.

Phase 1 of the project is expected to cost CNY180m ($29.3m) with a treatment capacity of 26,200t of wastewater or sewage.

Sound Global chairman Wen Yibo said: "Winning the bid for phase 1 of the PPP project of 13 sewage treatment plants in Tongzi County is another typical example of comprehensive sewage treatment following the successful implementation of bundled sewage treatment projects in Xishui County, Huangpin County and Xingren County of Guizhou.

"In particular, as the first PPP project in the same industry within Guizhou Province during the twelfth five-year plan, this model would fully utilise its capital for construction of the infrastructure and is expected to provide a stable source of capital for the urbanisation of the region."

The bundled project is likely to lower the debt pressure that the local government has been facing, by offering economically viable wastewater management solutions for the area.

The water treatment company aims to expand its business network in south-western parts of China, especially in the strategically located Tongzi County, which spreads across Sichuan, Chongqing and Guizhou.
