Next Filtration to deploy FOG STOP technology for Severn Trent

Next Filtration has secured a contract with Severn Trent to deploy its Next FOG STOP technology to cut down the build-up of fats, oils and grease (FOG) in sewers.

This agreement was signed following an 18-month trial period, during which Next FOG STOP helped to cut down maintenance costs and flooding as a result of blockages in sewers.

This deal also covers evaluation of further applications.

Next FOG STOP, which makes use of an environmentally friendly biological technology to boost wastewater process, can cut down aeration costs besides addressing issues relating to accumulation of biomass and controlling of hydrogen sulphide (H₂S). Further formulations can help to eliminate hydrocarbons after events related to oil spill contamination.

Severn Trent deputy chief engineer Bob Stear was quoted by Wateronline.com as saying: “We’re looking forward to moving into the next phase of collaboration with Next Filtration. Sewer blockages and associated flooding are a huge problem for us and our customers – and we are excited about how using new and innovative products can help us mitigate challenges and provide a better customer service.”

He added: “We will continue to remind our customers that fats, oils and greases should never be flushed down the sink or toilet – and until everyone disposes of these properly, we’ll be using this solution to help tackle the problem.”

Besides FOG STOP, Next Filtration offers other water and wastewater treatment technologies that serve as an alternative to conventional filter sand methods.

Earlier this month, Severn Trent has begun upgrading work of a 10 mile-pipeline, running from Whaddon to Minchinhampton reservoir in the UK.

This £11m investment will see delivery of quality drinking water to around 55,000 people.

Phase one is expected to commence in Amberley and will continue until mid-October.

Two more phases are expected to complete by the end of November.
