EPA Orders Battery Recycling to Reduce Water Violations

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken legal action against Battery Recycling, urging the firm to reduce the pollution of air and water from lead at its Arecibo facility in Puerto Rico.

The facility discharges stormwater into the Cano Vieques, which flows into Cano Tiburones and eventually empties into the Atlantic Ocean.

The EPA has asked the firm to improve the way it manages runoff from rainwater and correct violations of the federal clean water act.

Battery Recycling was ordered to develop a plan to comply with environmental regulations related to stormwater management and follow best management practices to control stormwater runoff.

The company was also ordered to identify and control water pollution unrelated to stormwater runoff in areas particularly the repair shop, and the storage and loading areas.
